Nick Gentry presenting his work to pupils at Parmiters school

Nick visited the school to give career advice to Year 10 art students.

Studying art today is a challenging proposition as the UK school system increasingly favours more ‘academic’ subjects. Nick visited the school to inspire the pupils and he suggested some ways in which creative skills that are learned in art can be practically applied in the real world.

Some of the ways in which art can help:

  • communications skills, public speaking

  • problem solving

  • independent working and thinking

  • appreciating the world and environment around us

  • time management, planning and organisation

  • looking at the world in a different way

  • building self esteem and confidence

  • some students who are not are very academic but are very creative enables them to find successful career paths
